February is coming!

During the summer camping trip, we had mentioned that February should be considered your scholarship month. Obviously, you should always be seeking them out, but this should be your main focus for this month!

Fastweb and just about any big corporation has a scholarship. maybe your parents workplace has one? or their union?
the high schools you attend also have alumni scholarship applications...seek them out!

also consider applying to INROADS. This group allows you to apply for internships at big companies without even a class of college under your belt! check inroads.org for more information!

Upward Bound's ski trip is coming towards the end of the month! start preparing for the trip...it's definitely worth it!

remember, never give up! you're already halfway there!

October!

Its already october.... and while some of you might already have halloween on mind, please remember that, if you are planning on attending a UC or a CSU, this is a VERY CRUCIAL month. you can already apply to the California State University, but do remember that some schools are impacted.

The CSU is undergoing impacted admission, meaning that students might get preference over others based on regional preference. There are some colleges, however, like San Jose State's Davidson College of Engineering, and the Cal Poly schools that will not be impacted, but will expect a highly qualified students. to learn more about this you can check out the CSU website for more information at csumentor.edu

the University of California will begin accepting admission application on NOVEMBER 1st. please get everything ready for this deadline as well. Please speak to your academic advisors and see if you qualify (you should qualify since most of you are low income) for UC admission fee waivers.

also PLEASE get going on the GATES scholarship. YOU DO NOT want to wait until the last minute to ask for recommendations!!!!! (some teachers do have cutoffs for recommendation!)

stay on top of SAT and ACT! there is a link on the SAT website (collegeboard.com) that provides a sign-up for the "SAT question of the Day". Collegeboard will email you a practice SAT question so you can get more practice!

keep at it class of 2010! you can do it!

July - Welcome back!

Hello to all the seniors who just came back from the UB/MS senior camping trip!
hope you've had a safe trip back home.

For some of you class is already starting this week. This early start provides you with a great chance to start speaking to your teachers about recommendations, Personal Statements, and even colleges that THEY have attended. Often times, teachers belong to their college alma mater's Alumni Association, and can provide you with some good information about that college.

please remember that the Millenium Gates Scholarship is set to open on August 1st.
